Jun 19, 2014 at 9:22 comment added Keshav Srinivasan Certainly Puranas concerning a particular god are more effusive in the praise of hat god, but it is too simplistic a view to say that they all make the same factual claims about their respective gods. To a large extent the various Puranas make consistent claims, they don't just switch orders randomly like that.
Jun 19, 2014 at 9:20 comment added Keshav Srinivasan And in any case, it is simply not true that the Brahma Purana claims that Brahma is an ancestor of Vishnu, or that the Shiva Purana claims that Shiva is an ancestor of Vishnu. To the extent that genealogy is discussed at all, the order is always Vishnu then Brahma then Shiva.

Jun 19, 2014 at 9:13 comment added Keshav Srinivasan I'm just asking you where you got the idea about someone coming from someone's eye.
Jun 19, 2014 at 9:06 comment added user3459110 @KeshavSrinivasan Thats what I am saying. There are many variations as to who came first. So I took a general form without particularizing. The Shiva puran says Shiva came first, Brahma puran says Brahma came first, and Vishnu puran says Vishnu came first.
Jun 19, 2014 at 9:03 comment added Keshav Srinivasan Do you have a source for Shiva coming from the eye of Vishnu? Shiva is usually considered to be the son of Brahma.
