Jul 14, 2016 at 6:04 comment added Anil Kagi After Vyasa, lot of other later knowledgeable writers added to MB. IMHO, the purpose of later writers, was not to make modifications to the story. The story & characters are just a pretext. The purpose is to impart knowledge about life, to help find the true Dharma, more easily, in the difficulties of our daily lives. The purpose of Vyasa was also same. His purpose was not to write a historical chronicle, strictly limiting himself to who said & did, what & when, but to help people ascertain true Dharma. We readers also, should focus on knowing Dharma, & not on whether Vyasa wrote it or not.
Jul 13, 2016 at 21:14 comment added Say No To Censorship The Wikipedia article you linked above is a perfect example of why Hinduism-related Wikipedia articles are a big problem. It points to ref #11 which points to sacred-texts.com/hin/m02/m02046.htm (Ganguli's tr. of Vyasa Mahabharata) but when you click on it, you will not find any mention of Draupadi laughing at Duryodhana. It says: "Beholding the plight of Duryodhana, the mighty Bhima and Arjuna and both the twins--all laughed aloud."
Jul 13, 2016 at 21:12 comment added Say No To Censorship This is not a science or medicine website. Several users on this forum believe that much of the Hinduism related articles on Wikipedia lack references and when they do cite references they point to some or other author's book but not to the original or translated Hindu scriptures.
Jul 13, 2016 at 20:52 comment added Anil Kagi In Science & medicine, accuracy is of high importance and peer review is the norm. In 2005, Nature journal said, Wikipedia's scientific articles were equal to level of accuracy of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Between 2008-12, articles even in medical & scientific fields compared Wikipedia to professional & peer reviewed sources & found that Wikipedia's depth & coverage were of a high standard. If we feel any information given on Wikipedia is wrong, we should challenge by providing contrary evidence. Without that, it is wrong to criticize an internationally accepted & acclaimed information source.

Jul 13, 2016 at 17:42 comment added Say No To Censorship IMO, Draupadi is a great character in MB, saying that 'she trampled dharma' without citing an authentic story is character assassination.
Jul 13, 2016 at 17:19 comment added Anil Kagi I don't think Vyasa or the future writers who added to MB, wanted the readers to find the authenticity of what they wrote. I suppose all they wanted is, that the readers understand Dharma. The story and its characters are just a pretext. It is what the knowledgeable Vyasa & others want to show to the world through the story and the characters, which is of importance. All they wanted to do was to enlighten our ignorance, by helping us find the right conduct.
Jul 13, 2016 at 16:20 comment added Say No To Censorship When Draupadi ridiculed Duryodhana saying 'Blind son of a Blind Father' - when did Draupadi ridicule Duryodhana? Maya sabha? I don't think the story is authentic.
