Kuru Raja got a boon while ploughing that anyone who dies in a war waged in Kurukshetra would automatically go to heaven. That is why this field of war which was earlier known as Samantapanchak became known as Kurukshetra. So what Lord krishna said was in accordance with the boon received by Kuru Raja. It is of course true that many of the warriors did not deserve moksha.

You want others to say that you are a great person who has done lot of good things. It can also mean that you think that you are helping others and not understanding that only God has the power to help others.
Dec 13, 2016 at 14:31 | comment | added | Sakthi | " Just serving others will lead to heaven" means it is a pious activity which leads to heaven or hell and bheesma was a great warrior who had great knowledge and he gave a gita called "BOOK OF INSTRUCTIONS" and he lived only to his duties he was only serving the kingdom but in a wrong side and had no and didnt take any opinions or decisions to avoid attachment, same drona, karna as by karma yoga -- WERE THEY SENTENCED TO REBIRTH................................Lord krishna told that those who die in the kurusekthra will go to HEAVEN and he did not mention anything about MOKSHA for them
