Sep 19, 2021 at 7:37 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal my question is just this, if caste was no big deal nor was hereditary why was it even mentioned by Dronacharya??
Sep 19, 2021 at 7:27 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal regarding Ekalavya they are just saying Drona didn't deny because of caste. But popular story afaik is that kf caste. Anyway where's the Mahabharata quotation of the incident.
Sep 19, 2021 at 7:26 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal so Karna had to lie to Parashurama that he was Brahmin. And it's fair to say that Parashurama didn't necessarily curse Karna on the basis of caste. So for that also I stand corrected.
Sep 19, 2021 at 7:24 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal The brahmastra can only be known by a brahmana who is observant of the vows, or by a kshatriya who has performed austerities, and by no one else. Why did Drona even say this??
Sep 19, 2021 at 7:23 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal I went through your links, one thing I was wrong about is that Karna didnt learn anything from Drona. That was my mistake. Corrected. But he was denied Brahmastra because of his caste. They may say the true reason was he was anti dharmic person. But the very fact Drona said he can only impart it to a Brahmana or a Kshatriya says a lot babout that society. If caste was nit ai important everyone would have objected to such a statement by Drona. Drona could have given any other reason and this statement simoly proves that caste based discrimination was allowed in the society.

Sep 16, 2021 at 4:57 | comment | added | user25787 | Before reading link , atleast read your own comment where you said that "Drona didn't teach Karna and denied all education not just Brahmastra. " See shloka number 9 and 10.And see this too hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/44032/… . And what about Parshuram curse ? Karna lied to him so obviously Parshuram would curse. hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/38249/… hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/10009/…
Sep 16, 2021 at 4:20 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal first read your own links before sending them, also what about Parashurama's curse to Karna and Drona denying Ekalavya?? You are silent on all those.
Sep 16, 2021 at 4:18 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal Keep laughing and don't read your own sources. This is what Drona says to Karna according to your own link, he replied, ‘The brahmastra can only be known by a brahmana who is observant of the vows, or by a kshatriya who has performed austerities, and by no one else.’ Having been thus addressed by the best of the Angirasa lineage, he honoured him and took his leave.

Sep 15, 2021 at 13:35 | comment | added | user22253 | @RaghavGoyal oh come on. People are trying to whitewash. What about Ekalavya. Drona didn't teach Karna and denied all education not just Brahmastra. So he went to Parashurama and lied he was a Brahmana and then he got cursed when Parashurama knew the truth. Stop white washing.
Sep 15, 2021 at 13:31 | comment | added | user25787 | @MrGreenGold Karna was denied brahmastra knowledge by drona because drona felt he is careless , rest all was taught to him. This is present in critical edition of Mahabharata released by Bori CE
Sep 13, 2021 at 16:30 | comment | added | user22253 | Infact the very story of Sathya Kama Jabala kind of proves caste is hereditary, that's why the Guru says you are so truthful, you must be a son of a brahmin and also he asks the boy who his father was. He doesn't say you are so truthful, your quality is that of a brahmin IMHO.
Sep 13, 2021 at 16:26 | comment | added | user22253 | Also Manusmriti is clear on caste being hereditary, and Smritis are considered a valid by all Vedantins
Sep 13, 2021 at 16:26 | comment | added | user22253 | In Mahabharata how exactly is caste qualification based when Karna and Ekalavya is denied education by Drona and Parashurama curses Karna for being a Kshatriya.
