Any reference in the Hindu scriptures (Vedas, Agamas , shastras, etc ) why temples remain closed during eclipse(grahana') ?

  • Good question. As such i feel.there is no.need to close temples. In fact religious and spiritual activities should be e.encouraged that time – Rakesh Joshi Nov 4 '17 at 1:03
  • Well, it could be down to custom as well but it would be great to know. I personally think there are good reason for closure due to the upsetting of the light rays on the energy around us - there are researches done on these already. – Ravi C Nov 4 '17 at 2:00
  • What.research ? You mean.this time.is not good for spiritual or religious stuff ? – Rakesh Joshi Nov 4 '17 at 2:03
  • We cannot explain everything yet in this world is my personal belief. The university of reading for instance has been conducting researches on climatic changes during eclipses. Other researches have been conducted on animal behavioral changes during phenomenon. The list is available just see any academia listing. – Ravi C Nov 4 '17 at 2:15
  • If you dont have explanation its okay but don't please brand it as a research. Just the point is how its related to worship or spirituality – Rakesh Joshi Nov 4 '17 at 2:16

The only spiritual activity recommended before and after a eclipse is Tarpanam. Best time to connect with the Pitrs is during Amaavaasya and eclipse times, and not with the Devas. The Rishis have allocated time for all activities. This is the oral practice carried on for many generations. If anyone has different idea he is questioning the wisdom of the Rishis. The current level of science at best maybe be useful for more mundane materialistic activities.

You want brahmin opinion or reality ? Kindly make that clear first. Brahmins themselves do a lot of spiritual activities in their home during eclipse – Rakesh Joshi Nov 5 '17 at 13:55
