As we know, Sri Vishnu has incarnated many times in the past. The most popular are ten incarntions of Sri Vishnu known as DashAvatara. They are -
Note- Some lists include BalaRama as eight incarnation instead of Buddha.
There are other lists from Bhagavata Purana which include twenty-two or twenty-four incarnations which are-
- Adi Purusha
- Four Kumaras
- Nara Narayana
Also, we know that -
- 1 Kalpa = 14 ManuVantaras
- 1 ManuVantara = 71 ChaturYuga or MahaYuga
- 1 MahaYuga = 4 Yugas(Satya,Treta,Dwaparya,Kali)
The Matsya Purana (290.3-12) lists the names of 30 kalpas, as follows-
Śveta Nīlalohita Vāmadeva Rathantara Raurava Deva Vṛhat Kandarpa Sadya Iśāna Tamah Sārasvata Udāna Gāruda Kaurma Nārasiṁha Samāna Āgneya Soma Mānava Tatpumān Vaikuṇṭha Lakṣmī Sāvitrī Aghora Varāha Vairaja Gaurī Māheśvara and Pitṛ
The Vayu Purana in chapter 21 gives yet another list of 28 kalpas. It also lists five more kalpas in the next chapter.
Currently we are in Kali-Yuga of 28th MahaYuga of 7th ManuVantara in Sveta-Varaha Kalpa. In each ManuVantara a new Manu(first human),SaptaRishis,Vyasa and new Indra and other Devas take their post. Our current Manu is Vaivasvasta. Sri Vishnu incarnates in all ManuVantaras to further help in advancing to the next ManuVantara. In out 7th ManuVantara Sri Vishnu incarnated as Lord Vamana to give boon to Bali who will be next Indra in 8th ManuVantara.
Up until recently, I used to think that all incarnations of Sri Vishnu took place in our own ChaturYuga. However,I learned from this site about how Sri Rama incarnated in 23th ChaturYuga on our own (7th Manuvantara) while Sri Krishna incarnated in 28th ChaturYuga that is our own ChaturYuga.
So I want to know in which Kalpa - ManuVantara - MahaYuga - Yuga did all of the twenty-four Avatars of Sri Vishnu incarnated in.If this is not possible(since our ancient Shastras were either destroyed or the surviving one has interpolation) than I would like to know about DashaAvataras or remaining Avatars.
