In the above answer , there is section of Mahabharat quoted in which Pandu is saying to Kunti that It was Rishi Shwetketu who banned adultery . Prior to that all women were free to indulge in adultery. Even if a woman is pativrata she is required to not have sex with other men only in her ovulating days. On other days she was also free to indulge in adultery.

So, my question is when did Rishi Uddhalak and Rishi Shwetaketu live ? And what was their authority that they banned adultery ?
