I am seeing in quora site that some people mentioning shani mahardhasha lasts for 19 years, but I have my sade satti starting now until 2030 as per vedicscholar web site.
Are they not both same? What are the actual effects of both of them?
Shani Mahadasha: It is one of the Vimshottari dashas and lasts for 19 years after the Jupiter Mahadasha. Shani Mahadasha's results would primarily depend on the strength of Saturn in one's birth chart.
Sade Sati: Saturn transit affects the emotions and begins when Saturn is transiting the asterism 45 degrees prior to the position of the natal moon and ends when Saturn transits the asterism 45 degrees past the position of the natal moon.
For example, if someone is born with Moon at 3 degrees in sign of Taurus, SadeSati may be assumed to begin, when Saturn is transiting 18 degrees of Pisces (in the asterism of Revati). This would mean that Sade Sati ends when Saturn transits 18 degrees in Gemini / Mithuna.
The effects would depend on multiple factors such as placement of Saturn in one's natal chart, moon-sign, etc. Overall, since Saturn is a planet of Karma it's best to walk the path of dharma and display kindness & tolerance in one's dealings with others as well as pray to Lord Shiva / Hanumanji / Krishna / Vishnu as per one's inclination.
