Fasting is primarily an act of willing abstinence or reduction from certain or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. Some Hindus fast on certain days such as Ekadasi, Pradosha kalam, Purnima. Some other people fast depending on personal belief and favorite deity. For example, devotees of Shiva tend to fast on Mondays, while devotees of Vishnu tend to fast on Thursdays
