Apr 29, 2020 at 2:21 comment added Gopal Anantharaman While other religions didn't know or think about these, Hinduism took a practical approach saying if your soul is returned to the elements which must be at a higher realm than earth, then technically, they cannot be used by bad elements but possibly the big 5 could use you i.e Ether, Water... etc. again very logical as they are the source of life.. that's all I wanted to say about that...
Apr 29, 2020 at 2:16 comment added Gopal Anantharaman There are some other interesting reasons as well.. The idea is the soul of a buried body could be used for nefarious purposes as that could be bound by tantric mantras. Lot of "manthravadhis" try to acquire occult powers through this means...some of them do use this to gain Siddhis through the dark path. Ephemeral at the most as they go away once the body is burnt. Yes, Summoning exists in hinduism as well...enlightened beings exit at a higher realm and can stand guard against these and hence protect their devotees is the common reasonable belief...

Nov 17, 2016 at 14:33 comment added Yogi @ParthasarathyRaghavan You were going out of the scope of the Question. The question is very specific, it is about hindu belief in cremation instead of Burial, your answer explained cremation and further rites.

Read the book Hindu Funeral rites and sharpen your knowledge. Have you heard of the word sanjayanam. Further I have told this is the next step answer to vineeet. Can't you read properly? Oct 14, 2015 at 15:26 comment added Say No To Censorship From wiki: Catholics are now able to be cremated also, and this is rapidly becoming more common, but the Eastern Orthodox churches still mostly forbid it.

Jun 4, 2015 at 10:41 comment added user808 Even the ancient greeks used to cremate and not just bury. Burial is there in hinduism too, but mostly for Yatis, Sanyasis and children below certain age.
Jun 4, 2015 at 5:50 comment added Swami Vishwananda The reasons that Christians bury their dead is that they believe that there will be resurrection of the body at the end of the world and they will live in their resurrected bodies after the final judgement. Thus, they believe they should preserve their bodies. Hinduism and Buddhism teach that we will be reborn in another body; that each of us has had thousands if not millions of other bodies before this one...what is so special about this particular one?

Feb 3, 2015 at 1:54 comment added user1195 Cremation is stipulated only for dwijas or twice-born. The fourth varna usually buries their dead. However, in current times, in view of the tragedy of the commons (i.e. space restrictions), Sudras also cremate their dead.
