After Diti vecame pregnant, Indra was fearful of her unborn son. So he stealthily entered inside Diti's womb & cut the foetus into 7 pieces. Those pieces started to howl violently, Indra addressed them as Mā Ruda (Don't cry) & silenced them by cutting each piece into 7 pieces. From those 49 pieces were born the 49 Maruts. | |
