BG 5.15

The omnipresent God does not involve Himself in the sinful or virtuous deeds of anyone. The living entities are deluded because their inner knowledge is covered by ignorance.

Here, he says that he is not responsible for and is not involved in the sinful and virtuous deeds. Yet, in BG 10.20 to 10.39 (way too many verses for me to quote here) he says he is literally everything and is involved in everything. Isn't this a contradiction? He is everything from A to Z, good to bad, etc, everything happens because of him, he is the reason of sorrow and happiness and everything, yet...he is not responsible/involved for one's deeds? How is that a thing?

  • To under stand bhagavad gita one had to be self realised.. one slokha is meant for realized in i.e. he in every activity or deed. whether it sin ful or good.. but other im not in sinful acitivity of bad meant for unrealized soul who are attached to to body. think that he is doing the action.. defintely only unrealized person are capable of doing sinful activity

  • One way to understand is by knowing the difference between Sanction and Will. Krishna merely sanctions every soul's good or evil desire and also gives full knowledge on how to attain Him, which is His own desire or Will. The variety in creation is the result of the jiva'a desires. As soon as the jiva surrenders to Krishna, He immedetiately takes full responsibility to bring him or her back to Him.

  • Please see - hinduism.stackexchange.com/a/58848/31356 It is not clear if God is omnipotent. When there is no omnipotence, God cannot be responsible for everything.

I don't know why this so hard to understand.

Let's assume you are a paralyzed person wearing neuralink who is looked after by a nurse in a hospital. Now if you want to drink juice you think of juice, the nurse gets it for you, you think of watching TV, nurse puts you in front of TV and switches it on.

Is the nurse responsible for your choices? No.
But is the nurse in complete control and does all the work? Yes.

Let's see how to understand this.

1. We have power, although limited.

We know from experience that we are not gods. We can hardly control our own life, let alone create universes. This means that we are separate from God in the amount of power given to us.

2. We are like God

ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूत: सनातन: ।
The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts.

So he's established that we're eternal parts and parcels of Krishna. This means that we inherit several qualities from him. These qualities can be listed as follows:

  • Eternity
  • Consciousness
  • Self-Identity
  • Free-will

Caitanya Mahāprabhu describes this oneness and difference as Acintya-Bheda-Abheda - Inconceivable Oneness and Discordance.

While we come from Krishna and everything's controlled by Krishna, Krishna has given us 'buddhi' to choose. Buddhi (intelligence) is subtler than the mind (manas) and has been given to us to make wise decisions that take dharma or morality in consideration.

दैवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया |
My divine energy Maya, consisting of the three modes of nature, is very difficult to overcome.

This is how, even though he is the supreme controller of all the reality and can do anything and everything, he allows us free will in this material world but the Maya is controlled by him alone. We just have the free-will to react freely to the situations that we encounter.

विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत् ॥
With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support this entire universe.

Since Maya or this material world is just one of his energies, he allows us to react to this energy in our own individual way. This world is sustained only by a small fragment of his power, as such, he chooses to give us free will and at the same time control us all.

मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ||
But those who surrender unto Me cross over it easily.

Krishna has chosen to create entities that have free-will. Entities whose reactions are not under his control, unless they specifically give up all the fruits of their actions and surrender themselves to his power alone.
